Second edition

Featured topic: Environmental Advocacy
November 7 – December 9 · UHCL

Film, art, performance, and advocacy
The second edition opened with a two-day program on November 10 and 11 before continuing as a month-long exhibition in the UHCL Art Gallery. Four film screenings, two panel conversations, a performance by Houston’s Free Radicals, a black-box cinema, gallery screens, physical art, and virtual reality created a campus-wide experience.
During the opening, Houston artist Geraldina Wise created a participatory Gulf Coast mural with UHCL students outside the gallery. The exhibition remained open through December 9, extending the festival through scheduled screenings, sustainability-focused artworks, and an immersive presentation in the Neumann Library XR Lab.

First edition
2021
Featured topic: Local and Global Sustainability
November 4 – December 10 · UHCL

Where the festival began
The inaugural Sustainable Stories Film Fest and Juried Art Exhibition established a public forum for films and artworks exploring environmental and social sustainability. Two live programs in UHCL’s 500-seat Bayou Theater were paired with an extended gallery exhibition, allowing audiences to encounter the selected work in both communal and ongoing settings.
Twenty-eight films were selected from 60 submissions representing 24 countries, together with 27 physical artworks. This first edition created the interdisciplinary model—film, art, education, and community conversation—that would guide the festival’s future growth.
